BTCCSquare news:

French cryptocurrency tax application Waltio has suffered a data breach, with hackers claiming to have stolen personal details of approximately 50,000 users. The attack was carried out by the group 'Shiny Hunters,' who have demanded a ransom from the company. Waltio, used primarily by French residents for calculating crypto capital gains and tax obligations, has filed a legal complaint for attempted extortion.

The hackers provided samples of the stolen data, which includes sensitive information on crypto holdings. While the data has not yet been leaked publicly, the incident highlights growing risks for cryptocurrency users in France, where targeted kidnappings have followed previous leaks of holder identities. Waltio has not publicly commented on the breach.

With an estimated 150,000 total users, Waltio serves as a critical tool for crypto portfolio tracking and tax filing in France. The breach underscores the vulnerabilities faced by centralized services managing sensitive financial data in the digital asset space.
